HICKS, CHARLES (BARNEY). Minstrels manager (c 1840s [?] in Baltimore, Maryland; 1902 in Suraboya, Java[now Indonesia]). Nothing is known of his early career. He first attracted attention when he organized a black minstrel troupe in 1865 in Indianapolis, Indiana, which he called the Georgia Minstrels .
