LEAGUE OF AMERICAN THEATRES AND PRODUCERS. Born as the League of New York Theatres and Producers in 1930, this organization is the voice of the producers and theater owners. The organization was founded to fight ticket speculation. The League’s charter stated its purpose: to protect the general public patrons of the theater, owners of theatrical entertainments, operators of theaters and reputable theater ticket brokers against the evils of speculation of theater tickets.
