BECKWITH, John Christmas

(1759–1809)> COMP. · ORG.

Beckwith was one of the best organists of his time, and a highly esteemed vocal instructor. Some of his secular vocal music is melodious in character, but otherwise his music is dull. He was succeeded by his son, John Charles Beckwith [1788–1819] at Norwich Cathedral. The book of chants contains an introductory article on chanting.
