HAUPT (Carl August). German org. and comp., Cunau, Aug. 27, 1810. S. under A. W. Bach, Dehn, Klein, and Schneider. Appeared in public, 1831. Org. at Thiele. Director of the Königliche Kirchenmusik Institut, Berlin, 1870. Has made a number of concert tours in England, Fiance, Germany, etc. Teacher of a number of pupils who have attained to eminence. He is chiefly celebrated for his fine performance on his instrument, and his remarkable power of rendering the works of Bàch.
