HOGARTH, George

Hogarth was one of the few cultured men of letters who have written intelligibly about music. His works are all of standard value, and are still sought among musicians. They are only open to the same objection as that urged against Messrs. Burney and Hawkins—who, by the bye, could scarcely help themselves—in not coming down to recent times. His daughter, Catherine, married Charles Dickens the novelist, in 1836.
