Chugayev [Chugáyiff], Aleksandr Georgiyevich (1-[27]29–1924, Yeysk, Krasnodar distr.). Musicologist, pedagogue, and comp. Grad. 1951 from the M. Cons., where his teachers incl. Shaporin, Shebalin, and Shostakovich . Publ. several studies on polyphony, incl. Structural Peculiarities of Bach's Keyboard Fugues (M., 1975); also taught at the Gnesin Institute (1947–78) and M. Cons. (from 1979). Among his pupils was Tukhmanov.
