Herke (Gerke), Avgust Grigor'yevich (1790, Luneburg; after 1848, ?). Polish violinist, cond., pedagogue, and comp. Father of A. A. Herke. In the mid–1810s concertized in the Ukraine. Settled in Zhitomir (1825), concertized in Kharkov, and taught. Works: orch pieces, incl. Military Ov.; pieces for vn and orch, incl. Potpourri in Polish Style, 3 polonaises. Bibliography: Yu.
