Kalniņš, Aldonis (2–26–1928, Uzava, near Ventspils). Latvian comp. and ethnomusicologist. Grad. 1954 from the Latvian Cons., where he studied comp. with Utkin, then cond. research on folk songs, notating over 1,000 Latvian melodies. Has comp. an important body of choral music, much of which has a pronounced national flavor.
