Kazhlayev, Murad Magomedovich

Kazhlayev [Kazhláyiff], Murad Magomedovich (1–15–1931, Baku). Comp. and cond. Grad. 1955 from the Baku Cons., where he studied comp. with Zeidman . Settled in Makhachkala, teaching at the Mus. Institute (1955–58) and cond. the Dagestan Radio Sym. (1957–58). Became president of the Dagestan Composers' Union in 1963 and wrote the first national Dagestan ballet Goryanka. Has also ventured into jazz, directing the jazz ensemble Gunib (1958–59) and comp. works such as the Jazz Concerto (1964)…
