Piatigorsky (Pyatigorsky), Gregor (Grigory) (4–17–1903, Yekaterinoslav [now in Dnepropetrovsk]; 8–6–1976, Los Angeles). Virtuoso cellist and comp. Studied vc with A. Glehn at the M. Cons. and privately with Brandukov. In 1919 was invited to join the prestigious Lenin Qt and also became principal cellist of the Bolshoi Theater Orch. Left the USSR in 1921, perf. in Europe, where he was principal cellist of the Berlin Philh. from 1924–28 and collaborated with Schnabel and Flesch in chamber music…
