Weisgall, Hugo. He became a naturalized citizen in 1926. He attended the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore (1928–31), and at Johns Hopkins University (1929–35, 1937–40) he obtained his doctorate with a thesis on seventeenth-century German lyric poetry.
