SAMARAS, Lucas

Born in Greece, Samaras came to America in 1948 and studied art and art history at Rutgers and then Columbia. Participating in early Mixed-Means Theater, he recognized the artistic possibilities of his own body, which he later photographed promiscuously, mostly with a Polaroid camera, sometimes altering the image through pressure during developing or by the addition of ink.
