Tale of Two Cities, A Opera in prologue and three acts by Arthur Benjamin (1949–50), libbretto by J. C. Cliffe after the Dickens novel. First heard on the BBC on 17 April 1953, and first staged at Sadler's Wells, London, on 23 June 1957. A vocal score was published (London, 1954).
