Tindley, Charles Albert (July 7, 1851; July 26, 1933) Minister, gospel songwriter, and the first black to publish an original song collection, Charles Albert Tindley was born in Berlin, Maryland. There is some dispute about his year of birth, with some sources giving it as 1859 but most using the year 1851.
