Folkways (Label) Founded in 1947 by Moses Asch and Marian Distler, in New York City. Asch was barred from participating in a new recording label after the bankruptcy of his previous label, Disc. For this reason, Folkways was originally incorporated with his assistant, Marian Distler, named as “president” and “owner,” although Asch was actually running the label from the start.
