L'adieu (FR) The Farewell. Poulenc's setting (1934, Huit chansons polonaises #5) for voice and piano of a translation of »Pozegnanie,« a Polish patriotic text and melody. Words and music are by Maurycy Goslawski (1802 – 1834), a Russian officer who fought the Turks in 1828 / 29. Upon hearing of the Polish insurrection, he deserted to become an uhlan (light cavalryman) in the legion of Podolie. He died in prison in Stanislawów.
