Avant le cinéma (FR) Before the Movies. Poulenc's setting (1931, Quatre Poèmes de Guillaume Apollinaire #3) for baritone or mezzo-soprano and piano of a poem, written on 20 March 1917, first published in Nord-Sud on 15 April 1917, then in Il y a (There Is, 1925, posth.). In Nord-Sud's table of contents, the title is listed as »Après le cinéma« (After the Movies). Poulenc writes: »Sing it evenly, completely straightforward.« The song is dedicated to Madame Picasso.
