Poulenc's setting (1942, Chansons villageoises #1) for voice and orchestra (or piano) of the fourth poem in the »Chansons de la petite terre« (Songs of the Little Earth) section from A dos d'oiseau: »Chansons de la grande hune« (Bird's-Eye View: »Songs of the Great Watch Platform,« 1945), originally titled plurally »Chansons du clair tamis« by Fombeure. The poem is dated 1929. The song is dedicated to Louis Beydts.
