envoi

l'envoi (FR N-M) sending. The final stanza, usually of a ballade, often beginning with the word Prince, Princesse, Roi, Reine, or Sire. This dates to the custom of poetry competitions sponsored by royal patrons. First appears in French in 1130 spelled envei, from Latin inviare (to cover a distance), via (road, way).
