Fleurs

Fleurs (FR) Flowers. Poulenc's setting (1939, Fiançailles pour rire #6) for voice and piano of the 13th poem by Vilmorin from Fiançailles pour rire (Humorous Engagements, 1939). Poulenc repeats the first, third, and fourth lines of the poem at the end of the song. Poulenc writes, to Marie-Blanche de Polignac: »The last song, »Fleurs,« is a tear-jerker, or at least, should be.« The song is dedicated to Solange d'Ayen.
