geai

le geai (FR N-M) jay, songbird (family: Corvidae, genus: Garrulus). True jays have unusual blue and black barred feathers, and are found in Europe and Asia. They are especially fond of acorns, which they store. Both sexes of the jay cooperate in the raising of their young. Normally noisy, demonstrative birds, they are quiet and inconspicuous when nesting. First appears in French in the 12th century, from Latin gaius (onomatopoetic and/or proper name). (Silvestre)
