Marc Chagall Poulenc's setting (1956, Le Travail du peintre #2) for voice and piano of the first poem »A Marc Chagall« from »Le Dur Désir de durer« (The Difficult Desire to Withstand, 1946) by Eluard, dedicated to Chagall. Poulenc writes: »[the song] is a sort of drifting scherzo. Unusual objects pass in the sky. A poetic fall brings us back to the human.«
