Paul Klee
Paul Klee Poulenc's setting (1956, Le Travail du peintre #5) for voice and piano of the 12th poem by Eluard from the Nouveaux Poèmes (New Poems) section of Capitale de la douleur (Capital of Sorrow, 1926). The poem was first published in the catalog of the Exposition Paul Klee in 1925. Eluard and Klee were in frequent correspondence from about 1928, but the project of a book of Eluard's poetry, illustrated by Klee, which greatly excited Eluard, never came about. See Klee, Paul.
