serenade (la sérénade)
serenade (la sérénade) (ENG, FR N-F) evening song, usually sung by a male lover to his beloved in as seductive a manner as possible to lure her out of the bedroom and into the garden or some other locale for love-making. Later, a piece of instrumental (or vocal) music composed for outdoor, night performance, having several movements, often conceived for wind instruments, without the ulterior motive of romantic seduction. (Anon., Banville, Bussine, Verlaine)
