Surgi de la croupe et du bond (FR) Surged From the Croup and the Leap. Ravel's setting (1913, Trois Poèmes de Stéphane Mallarmé #3) of the middle poem (1887) of a triptych by Mallarmé. The poem was first published in La Revue indépendante in January 1887. Ravel writes: ». . . the strangest, if not the most hermetic of his sonnets.« The song, finished in August 1913, is dedicated to composer Erik Satie (1866 – 1925).
