JOUHIKANTELE

JOUHIKANTELE (JOUHIKKO), a bowed kantele with two to four strings, used mainly for playing dance tunes. It was related to the Celtic chrotta and crwth. This instrument (stråkharpa in Swedish, Streichleiter in German), which became obsolete soon after the turn of the twentieth century, has been discussed in a doctoral dissertation by Otto Anderson.
