TAMPERE BIENNALE

TAMPERE BIENNALE, a weeklong festival of new music established in February of 1986 by composer Usko Meriläinen (see MERILÄINEN, USKO) in cooperation with the Association of Finnish Composers. Held in alternate years to the international Helsinki Biennale (see HELSINKI BIENNALE), the program features new Finnish compositions and also commissions new works. In addition to chamber and symphony concerts, the works featured may be electronic, dance, or jazz, depending on the works selected.
