The Prairie provinces ( Manitoba , Saskatchewan, and Alberta ) were settled, by both First Nations Peoples and by Europeans, somewhat later than the eastern provinces, but by the end of the eighteenth century various groups of Algonkian- and Athapascan-speaking Indians and Plains Cree had established communities there.
