NAMAKELUA, Alice K. Hawaiian guitarist, singer, teacher and composer. Honolulu, August 12, 1892. She was raised in a musical family and started singing at five and playing the slack key guitar at eight. She composed over 180 songs and taught them to children. In 1972 the Hawaiian Music Foundation named her as the person who had contributed most to Hawaiian music.
