Carnaval

Carnaval Carnaval (carnival is thus spelled in Spanish and Portuguese) refers to a public celebration prior to Lent. In the Americas it is nearly always celebrated in a relatively large urban center, to which people in the countryside will travel for the music and dancing rather than instituting their own local festivals.
