Bassoon stop
Bassoon stop (Fr.: basson; jeu de basson; Ger.: Fagottzug; It.: pedale di fagotto), harpsichord stop and piano stop found on some 18th-c. and early-19th-c. instrs., a “Turkish music” stop consisting of a strip of wood to which a roll of parchment was glued. This could be lowered onto the strings by means of a pedal. Usually it was applied only to the bass section, going up to c1 at most (92). Harding, Rosamund E. M. The Pianoforte. Cambridge, 1933.
