Cabinet piano
Cabinet piano upright piano invented by William Southwell of Dublin in 1807 and improved by him in 1821. It was large and cumbersome, 1.80–2 m. (6–6½ ft.) high, with the tuning pins at the top of the soundboard and a large, open front panel covered with cloth. Despite its size it remained pop. until the mid-c., when smaller uprights came to be preferred (92, 149). Sort by:DefaultAuthorTitleDateAscendingDescending Harding, Rosamund E. M. The Pianoforte.
