Chanterelle
Chanterelle [Fr. chanter, to sing] (Fr.) (Ger.: Sangsaite; It.: cantino), the highest string of any chordophone having a neck. In France today the term is applied only to the E string of the violin, although the word has been in use there in the wider sense since the second quarter of the 16th c. (85, 127).
