Chitarrino

Chitarrino [dim. of *chitarra], a small guitar pitched a 3rd higher than the ordinary guitar. According to Valdrighi, the term occurred in 1445. Called Terzgitarre in Ger. According to O. Bachmann (Handbuch des Geigenbaues, 1835), it served for teaching children the guitar.
