Clavier-Gambe 1. *bowed keyboard instr. built by Johann Georg Gleichmann of Ilmenau in 1709, according to Walther, but probably not before 1725. An imitation of the Geigenwerk, it had an oval body under which a large wheel was placed; this actuated several smaller wheels situated inside the body.
