Echeion
Echeion (Gk.), possibly a flat gong of ancient Greece, or a percussion plaque. We know that at their death rituals the Greeks played an instr. of metal that continued to sound long after it had been struck (the same practice exists in SE. Asia); Jaap Kunst was of the opinion that this might have been the echeion (121, 144 Kunst). Sort by:DefaultAuthorTitleDateAscendingDescending Kunst, Jaap. The Music of Java. The Hague, 1949.
