Echo bassoon
Echo bassoon (Ger.: Echofagott), instr. invented in Naples ca. 1830, said to have imitated the human voice, and doleful sounds particularly, for which reason it was used in mourning music. By 1835 it had not become known outside Naples (Schilling, Universal Lexikon der Tonkunst, II, 1835).
