Gaku sō

Gaku sō sō no koto of Japan used in gagaku music, an unaltered version of the Chin. *cheng mentioned in the 756 inventory of Todai-ji Temple, Nara. It has 13 strings, is ca. 2 m. (6 ½ ft.) long, max. width 25 cm. (10 in.). Also called sō, shin sō (144). Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart. Kassel and Basel, 1949.
