Gumbeng

Gumbeng idiochord *tube zither of Java, made of bamboo, the node being pierced at one end. A single string is detached from the surface and raised over 1 or 2 small nuts. Sometimes a vibrating, spoon-shaped bridge is inserted about halfway along the string. Also called bumbung. Cf. guntang (121). Kunst, Jaap. The Music of Java. The Hague, 1949.
