Humbaldú

Humbaldú percussion gourd of the Futa women of Senegal. A dried, cucumber-shaped gourd, open at both ends, is held by the player's left hand while she alternately opens and closes the upper aperture. The lower end is opened and closed by being placed on and removed from her thigh. The sound is sufficient for the accompanying of songs. See also: darhama, degemma (152). Ortiz, Fernando.
