Kafir harp

Kafir harp *arched harp played in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan, with 4 or 5 strings. The neck pierces the resonator's membrane belly and reappears to form the string holder, pierced with holes through which the strings are knotted. The Kafir harp has been likened to a harp of ancient Gandhara, in whose cultural sphere Afghanistan lies (15 Wachsmann). Baines, Anthony, editor. Musical Instruments Through the Ages. London, 1961.
