Mute cornett
Mute cornett (Ger.: stiller Zink; It.: cornetto muto; Sp.: corneta muta), straight cornett, with mouthpiece turned in the tube of the instr. itself. The mouthpiece is conical and merges with the bore without sharpness; its upper diam. is ca. 13 mm., its depth 9 mm. Praetorius says that the tone quality of the mute cornett was gentle, soft, and sweet (14). Baines, Anthony. Woodwind Instruments and Their History. London, 1957.
