Primhorn

Primhorn (Ger.), valved brass instr. of alto range, first built by Vaclav F. Červeny of Königgrätz (Hradec Králové) in 1873, similar to the *French horn and the *ballad horn, the bore being wider than that of the French horn and narrower than that of the ballad horn. Its bell is wider than that of the ballad horn. Pitched in F, an oct. higher than the horn, for which reason it is also called Oktavhorn. It is played with a French-horn mouthpiece.
