Quinterna

Quinterna Lat.: gittern 1. and 2. Paulus Paulirinus describes it as smaller than the “cithara” (cittern) ca. 1460; some 20 years later the phrase “lutina quinterna vocant” occurs. To Praetorius it was a type of guitar with 4 pairs of strings, tuned c0 f0 a0 d1, and a sickle-shaped pegbox.
