Sa tai *spike fiddle of Thailand, made of ivory and mother-of-pearl, with heart-shaped body, membrane belly, long neck, and lateral ivory pegs for 3 silk strings. Some specimens have a coconut body, but then the heart-shaped upper surface is preserved. The strings are attached to the spike, pass over a semicircular bridge, under a ligature that serves as nut, or capotasto. A small deposit of rosin for the bow is kept attached to the membrane.
