Surla [zurnā], 1. *whistle flute of Hvar Island, Yugoslavia, very rare today. Similar in form to the recorder, it has 6 equidistant holes of which 5 are fingerholes, 1 a vent (34); 2. shawm of Romania, made of wood or metal, usually with 6 fingerholes (5); 3.
