Tuning peg
Tuning peg (Fr.: cheville; Ger.: Wirbel; It.: bischero, pirolo), wooden pegs to which the strings of some chordophones are attached and by which they are tuned. In ancient Egypt and on some non-European instrs. of today (African arched harps, for instance) the pegs are immovable, their purpose being to prevent the strings from slipping.
