Issé

Issé is a heroic pastoral in three acts and a prologue for which André-Cardinal Destouches composed the musical score and Houdard de La Motte wrote the libretto. It is considered to be Destouches’s best score, although he was only 25 years old at the time of its premiere on 17 December 1697. Issé made such an impression on Louis XIV that he gave Destouches a purse of 200 louis after its first staging at the Trianon.
