Le Triomphe des arts

Le Triomphe des arts is an opéra-ballet in five acts with music by Michel de La Barre and a libretto by Houdard de La Motte. It had its premiere at the Palais-Royal on 16 May 1700, and its first and only run extended for 24 performances until 19 July 1700. The first entrée, entitled L’Architecture, presented Apollon agreeing with Vénus that L’Amour be honored in a new temple built for him, but Apollon insists that Louis XIV have an even greater share in this homage.
