Etienne, Charles-Guillaume (5 January 1777, Chamouilley, Haute-Marne; 13 March 1845, Paris), dramatist, journalist, and member of the French Academy, was raised by his uncle and his parish priest after the death of his parents. He completed his formal studies at age 14 and was sent to Lyon at age 16 to prepare himself for a business career under the direction of another uncle.
